Washington, DC.

We are preparing to install an 1,800 sq ft area with a high quality durable synthetic grass. This family has several kids that give the natural grass a "ZERO %" chance at survival and soon they will have a 24/7 surface to play on.

The before shot of the Caruth backyard in Virginia. The homeowners are looking to improve their yard for the dog and make it more usable for recreation.

They called DOC to see if we could help.

The process of removing the existing grass and leveling out the surface. This part of the project can be done by the home owner if they would like to reduce the overall cost of the project. We can provide instructions for doing the dirt work if an owner is interested

The surface is set a rough grade. It's not where we need it to be to start the drain system but it is close. We will now start to fine grade the surface and compact the surface to make it good and hard.

The wet weather is working against us because cannot cover up a muddy surface, we need it to solid stable soil.

Once the vegetation is removed the top surface is turned into fine material so it can be leveled and graded.  Photo 4-12-08

We have added the perimeter trench drain and are now leveling out the soil with of fine stone to lock up the surface and reach our desired compaction level.

The subsurface has been graded to the correct slope and the stone has been added to firm up the surface. We are compacting the the surface ahead of installing the drain system for the yard.

The installation of the drainage system is important. While you can install this artificial grass without a drain system in about 2 years you will see the difference. On surfaces without this system the surface under the field will start to show while this drain system will bridge the inconsistencies in the subsurface. More importantly, the removal of water from the surface will be done at a rate that exceed 90% of drain systems on the market. This system drains water up to 14 times faster than stone, keeping the surface usable.

This system add about $1.25 per sq ft to your project.

The installation of the drain system under the synthetic grass is almost complete. Once done the edges will be addressed and then the synthetic grass will be installed.
