Artificial Turf Preventative Care & Maintenance The care of a synthetic turf field is extremely important. This field has not been cared for properly and after several seasons of play the field has lost
years of future playability. The fibers have been worn down and have deteriorated which will result in the expedited
purchase of a new field. A great deal of this wear could have been reduced with a preventative care maintenance
program. . If a
field is low in infill material (rubber, sand & rubber, granules) it will create increased wear because the fibers
are lying over and activity is on the sides instead of the tops. This will wear out the fibers and in most cases it
is grounds for voiding of the warranty by the yarn manufacturer.
(The turf company's warranty is based on the
yarn manufacturer's warranty) . This photo is showing the use of a power broom to remove the broken fibers ahead of
adding more rubber to the field. Those fibers needed to be removed along with debris so the infill material could settle down
in the system. After the school played on this field for over 4 years low on rubber we were able to add enough rubber raise
the infill up over 1/4." That will increase the life of this field and had it been done earlier a lot more of lost
fibers could have been saved extending the life of the playing surface.
Below you
will find helpful hints & tips for caring for artificial turf fields. (The pictured machine is not for used by owners for routine maintenance. This machine should only be
used by skilled installation professionals because use incorrectly it can add wear to the field.) _________________________________________________________ Please

MAINTENANCE Even though artificial turf doesn't require the amount of maintenance and care that
is needed with a natural grass field, care and mainenance is still very much needed. The concept of a maintenance free artificial
turf sports field is really an illusion. Synthetic
turf sports fields require quality maintenance and care programs and when done proplery the life of the field can be extended.
A consistent maintenance program will keep the play of the field constant for much longer. The
impact of pollution Pollution is not a
friend of infill turf systems. Leaves, debris, small sticks and twigs are bad but also small particles like moss, algae and
fine grains of sand can encourage compation on the top layer. This forms a hard layer on the top of the infill that can lead
to slickness, reduced porosity and increased susceptibility to potential injuries. If the pollution reaches the stage of reducing the porosity in the field, you may begin to see standing
water on the surface of the field. Once this begins you may see the shifting and movement of your infill material due to water
running over the surface of the system instead of down through the infill. There are a number of factors that have to be considered to determine which maintenance program is
best for the system you have. Most synthetic turf fields can be cleaned and brushed. There are several factors
that play into the equipment that you can use on the field: Consult your turf provider for the proper program
for your field. Feel free to contact our office and we will gladly develop a plan to properly care for your field. This will
directly impact the life of your field.

Service Contracts
& Repair Services for Existing fieldsU.S. Naval Academy Annapolis, MD - The existing artificial turf
field that has no active warranty. The turf company has gone out of business leaving the owners
without means to maintain their investment in 2 fields. The Naval Academy has several artificial turf fields and we have provided
service on 3 of them. We are replacing the Lacrosse
goal areas on the field because they have worn out. We are just replacing the circles because they show wear and break down
faster than the balance of the field. Instead of the field needing to be replaced we just replace those areas and the field
can last several more years. When others see an
opportunity to convince an owner to purchase a new field, we see a way to extend the life of the existing field.
This is why so many owners purchasing new fields come to DOC. If we can extend the life of the older fields, what type
of value are owners getting who use DOC Turf for their new fields. You can invest in advertising to secure your investment or in Quality Service & Experience
that will improves the value of your investment.

Weekly/Monthly Maintenance Program Most of the systems can be cleaned by standard tow behind type
leave sweeper. (Parker, Agri-Fab etc) Another very safe option is the use of a blower. You can sweep or blow the debris off
the surface of the field. You need to consultant your turf provider to set the machines to the proper height so you are removing
as little infill material as possible. The object is to sweep up or blow away the debris sitting on top of the infill and
fibers and leave the infill in place. However, some infill material (rubber) will get in the sweeper catch bag even if set
properly. There is a design on the catch bag of these sweeper that provides a screen system in the bottom to allow the rubber
to fall back down in to the field. Traditionally
these type of leaf sweepers are written into the specification when the field is built and provided to owners as the key piece
of equipment for maintenance. These machines can be used weekly and are very important to keeping the leaves and debris
off the fields. Set up a schedule just like mowing the natural grass to remove the debris from your field. If you don't have the staff or equipment to perform the service
yourself please contact our offices. We will develop a program to provide routine preventative care for your field(s) to help
extend the life and quality of play. The main investment has been made
now lets take the final step of taking care of the field on a regular basis.
